Paneer Butter Masala is a well-known, creamy tomato curry that Indians enjoy. Slices of paneer cooked in a creamy gravy are ideal for dinners with family or for any special occasion.
Ingredients:
- 250g paneer cut into cubes
- 2 1/2 tbsp butter
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 medium onions, chopped very finely
- Puree 3 tomatoes to get the sauce ready.
- Use 1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste.
- 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup of fresh cream
- Add salt to your preference.
- Use 1 tsp of kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves).
- To garnish, add some fresh coriander.
Instructions:
- Heat a pan by adding butter and oil. Cook the onions until they have turned golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and stir it in for 2 minutes until the kitchen smells delicious.
- Add a can of tomato puree, one teaspoon of turmeric, one teaspoon of chili powder and some salt. Fry the masala until the oil separates.
- Throw in the paneer cubes, sprinkle garam masala and add kasuri methi. Mix gently.
- Add fresh cream to the tomato mixture and cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
- Top the rice with coriander and serve it while it’s still hot.
Serve With:
Pair up with naan, roti or jeera rice for the best result.
This dish was invented in North India and today is celebrated in Punjab as well as globally for being rich and buttery.
